Turks & Caicos is famous for the 1,000 square miles of reef that surround it, making it the third largest reef system in the world. The crystal clear waters off the island chain ensure visibility up to 200 feet and make the shallow reefs close to shore a wonderful snorkeling opportunity.
Relatively untouched by humans, South Caicos' reef system is considered the healthiest and most vibrant in the island chain. Scuba diving and snorkeling around South Caicos is rated among the best in the Caribbean, with walls that plunge from 50 feet to 7,000 feet, coral reefs teeming with tropical fish-life and overflowing with colorful sponges. In addition, because of the proximity of the wall, some of the most spectacular diving in the world can be accessed from "shore dives" just a few hundred yards off of Cockburn Harbour. The islands have been recognized by Scuba Diving Magazine for "Best Fish Life", "Best Overall Destination", "Best Wall Diving", "Best Beginning Diving" and "Healthiest Marine Environment".
